Carex swanii A. A. Reznicek

Dry open fields and forests (oak, etc.) or, more often, rich deciduous forests or thickets bordering moist ground. Easily confused, especially when immature, with C. virescens. The perigynia of C. virescens are generally ellipsoid, while those of C. swanii tend to be short-obovoid.
