A Eurasian introduction not recorded from Michigan until 1980, when collected by A. A. Reznicek in Monroe Co.; J. compressus is now much more common than the similar J. gerardii, and the dense, dark patches are a characteristic feature of many roadsides where salt is applied in winter.
