Echinochloa muricata A. A. Reznicek

Sometimes in heavily disturbed places, but more generally in moister sites than E. crusgalli, sometimes even in shallow water: wet shores, ditches, river banks, and floodplains. Apparently native in America but variable and with weedy tendencies, like E. crusgalli. Both var. muricata, with spikelets ca. 3.3–4.5 mm long, and var. microstachya Wiegand, with spikelets ca. 2.7–3.4 mm long occur in Michigan; the former largely in the southern half of the Lower Peninsula, the latter throughout the State.
