Salix myricoides A. A. Reznicek

Sandy shores, dunes, and moist interdunal hollows along the Great Lakes; rarely inland on calcareous shores and fens.

Vegetative specimens with mature leaves are often difficult to distinguish from S. eriocephala, especially if one is not familiar enough with both species to evaluate the comparatively thick leaf texture and more heavily glaucous surface of S. myricoides. This species apparently hybridizes on the dunes with S. cordata.
