Botrychium tenebrosum A.A. Eaton
Common Name: SHADE MOONWORT
Synonym: Botrychium simplex
Coefficient of Conservatism: 7
Coefficient of Wetness: -3
Wetness Index: FACW
Physiognomy: Nt Fern

Most of our collections are from cedar swamps, or moist to wet, often mixed woods, often on mossy hummocks or even mossy logs and stumps, where it is typically the only species of Botrychium. It also occurs, though much less commonly collected, in moist open meadows, or sometimes drier, sandy open sites.

Occurring esentially throughout the State, this is a small, slender, difficult to see species that is probably overlooked.
