Carex sartwellii A. A. Reznicek

Fens, sedge meadows, calcareous wet open sandy or mucky ground, lake shores, and (Drummond Island) thicket borders on dolomite pavement. Very local (or perhaps somewhat overlooked) north of the middle of the Lower Peninsula.

Although often fruiting sparsely, the tall vegetative stems occurring singly along thick, dark-scaled long-creeping rhizomes are distinctive, and allow recognition when vegetative. .
