Shallow water and wet ground generally: marshes, borders of streams and ponds, ditches, muddy banks, floodplains, wet thickets, older parts of bogs, etc.
Our common species throughout the state. Petals are longer, and flowers thus broader (ca. 6–13 mm in diameter), than in A. subcordatum, but they preserve very poorly in specimens. The sepals are mostly 2.5–4 mm long.
