R. W. Smith
A native of South Africa, popular in gardens, especially as a border plant, and occasionally escaping to lawns and disturbed places. Collected by O. A. Farwell at Lake Linden, Houghton Co., in 1914.
Fragmentary specimens may resemble L. kalmii, but L. erinus has deep blue or violet corollas, slender even setaceous calyx lobes, and long pedicels without bracteoles; a pair of minute bracteoles is on each pedicel in L. kalmii.
